Bechyn Czech Festival 24 Aug 1997

Dad showed up at 9AM with bananas and: "You weren't up at 7AM!", since we weren't ready to go. He had everyone help to load our car to speed things up. He, Chris and Angi left 15 minutes before us, but we found them behind us on highway 212. A detour by Olivia but we made it to Bechyn. Dad had made up a nametag for me that said: "Malecek from NZ". Chris was so happy that I was there, because whenever he meets someone who finds ou the is John's son, the question always is: "Are you the one from New Zealand". Fred and Margie joined us for a meal in the hot basement. Back outside we hooked up with Jerry, Mark, Roxy, Mike and Suzie (who is now extremely outgoing - complete opposite to the girl I last saw in 1968). Had family tree discussions with everyone, but most importantly Henry and Cecelia (especially about our name being "Malecek" or not). Lovely chats with Dorothy Malecek and Anna Bummel (Pete's daughter). Also met and spoke with Jeanie (Swoboda) and her husband Alvin Wohnoutka, Dick Serbus, Roland and Frances Serbus, Ben Serbus (Adolph's son), Gordy Serbus, and Adoph Serbus' daughter Angie Kinney. Ralph joined us and he is the same as I remember him from 30 years ago.
