| 1971 | Got my first copy of Newsweek, photos from Gail and newspapers from Mom. Fed Spotty, helped talatala get some methys and took biscuit tins apart with the stagehands. Down to Whites after the movie. Susi and I had fantastic hands and we played until 3AM. | ![]() |
| 1973 | Hardly anyone showed up for basketball. I put Nelson Sopar in charge of the team. Our rubbish wasn't picked up for a second week, so when it got dark I tossed it into the tip, which is only a block away and then I jogged around the dump [ed. - covered over and made into a park a few years later]. | |
| 1974 | Up before 7AM and went for a run!!!! In Science we fed our bugs. Postcard from White in Boston and I replied. Letter from Bill who is married and becoming a father. Down to Y to watch Papakura play Taihiti. Good game between women and our men's team height told the story. | ![]() |
| 1975 | Rock 'n Roll class - lecture on gear (lesson plan) went well and then I played the George Harrison tape. Bridge lesson at lunch. Made a tape for Hoffsis that included Its In the Bag and a documentary on the Sigatoka Valley. | |
| 1976 | Biked up to pracice. Rudy stopped in with Cagers uniforms. He, Jocelyn and Krista visited for an hour. Bought three packs of Girl Guide cookies at 32¢ each. Rockerfeller visiting NZ and the controversy these days is US nuclear ships using NZ ports. Walked to Jones' where we chatted with McGhies and Findlays. | |
| 1978 | M - George gave me a copy of the photo that will be in the Papakura paper. Colin has invited me to give a lecture on how to make Mathematics fun and use of the Overhead at the Maths conference. Freezer delivered and we put it into the back hall. Wrote an article for "Counties Sport" about Rosehill basketball. | ![]() |
| 1979 | Manurewa where I bought Motors' album 1 ($7.99) and Dr Feelgood's album Stupidity ($4.99). We had supper at Pizza Hut where we got Superman mugs. Gail went to Slimmers and Doug came by with Jesse (his mother's pekinese). Doug was holding the dog on the couch and Ne walked up to pet him. It happened so fast so we aren't certain. Jesse either bit or swiped a paw at Ne. In any case Ne's face was ripped through her upper lip. Lower lip was cut too, a cut under the eye and the inside of her lower eyelid. Luckily, Purvis let us come over and he put 2 stitches into her lip. Was a very difficult time for me to have to hold Ne when anesthetic was shot into the wound and hearing her screams. David and Doug held her feet and I held her head. Over to Emergency Pharmacy to get eye drops for her. When we got back home she pet Jesse and cooed and talked sweetly to him. |

| 1980 | Th - Finished reading Lost Cities and Vanished Civilizations. Over to Angi's to show her my resume and visited for an hour. Over to Zayre where I bought a kite and wind-up rubberband airplane. Brought mom out to A&W for supper. | |
| 1981 | F - Beat Gail in three games of cribbage, skunking her once. | |
| 1982 | Sa - Blizzard dumped 3" of snow. Letter to Thomas. Mom called then Dad did (talked to him for 3.5 hours and he told me many war stories). Gail sold the most wine and was given a bottle of Blue Nun '79 Liebfraumilch, which we drank when she came home. | |
| 1983 | Easter - Laid a trail of candy to the kids baskets. Kids were up at 6AM to discover it. Over to mom's - she gave Ne a lamb, David a Matchbox truck and birthday gifts (can opener, candy thermometer, serving spoons...) to Gail. We brought her to Pannekoeken Huis (popovers) for brunch - drinks came in Kerr canning jars. Then we went to NW Sports Show in the Auditorium where we loaded up on info for South Dakota and Montana. David bought sunfish lures. Took in the show - fellow in front of us kept insulting the diver and was finally dragged into the act and did comic dives. There were Polish acrobats, The Seven Staniks; two guys, Volantes, on unicycles; Sensational Leighs in a Giant Space Wheel and retriever dogs. Checked out taxidermy display and birds of prey show with an excellent talk about owls. Finally, we looked at the RVs and tents. Finished reading Liberace autobiography. |

| 1984 | Listened to a tape of Bob Haugh's address to managers in which he calls for 125% and aludes to layoffs. New bows in so I stopped in and then waited 30 minutes only to find that George had broken the new ones too. My Rhino "Worst Records of All-Time" LP came today, complete with barf bag. Gail stepped on a sliver of glass (from a vitamin bottle that Ne broke a couple days ago) and bled profusely from the heel [ed. - it stayed in for several years and then worked its way out on its own]. |

| 1985 | Picked up latest glasses, met Doug S. there and sold him my bi-centennial quarters. He joined us at Burger King. Went to Minnesota Science Museum. A lot of kid activity things. Maya exhibition. Saw a computer art show and "Grand Canyon" in the Omni Theater. Kind of a strain to watch - so large and around the sides and loud. Checked out the dinosaur section. | 1987 | JV appointed me Info Center Supervisor and he sees the position growing to Manager. Fixed Ruth's computer and had a few words with Diane Andrews who was having trouble on her Lingo/DW3. Opened a bottle of '82 Villa Banfi Chianti to celebrate promotion, but it was pretty bad stuff. Natasha slept over. | |
| 1988 | Easter - Gail gave me a Goofy Write 'n Wipe book and I gave her a Kaluha. We gave Ne a set of colored pencils and David a "Dungeons and Dragons" book. Built closet frame in guest room. | ![]() |
| 1989 | Bought Atmore's 82 Mitsubishi Super Salon for $8200. Had a drink then brought them to a motel by the airport. Watched John Candy in Going Beserk. Letter to Lees. | |
| 1990 | Everything seems to be falling apart at work frustrating me and James. Went to Computerworld to reorganize how we will do monthly review meetings with Marilyn. Watched Adventures of a Taxi Driver and Zardoz. | |
| 1991 | Mr Brewster came to look at the fireplace so I had to remove the firewall, filling and ceramic surround (took most of the day). Paid car insurance ($404 for $5000 cover) and bought a 4l can of enamel paint at Levene's ($110 - cost $56.40 five years ago). | |
| 1992 | Blouse and letter from Joyce for Gail. Pair of Dick Holmberg's pants for me from Mom. Ne got all "1"s for effort on her reports card even though she didn't do anything. Even she is disgusted with the teachers. Helped her with English homework. | |
| 1993 | Went to Whites for the Brazil Grand Prix. Supper and then bridge - I was hot. | |
| 1994 | Easter. Ne found 5 of the 6 eggs that I had hidden. Watched the videos mom had sent - Christmas and a Viking win over Washington. Played Upwords. | |
| 1997 | Th - Card and note from Noriyo. Stine Pederson, from Denmark, has joined my group of foreign emailers. I was with Daniel working on Admin network until 5:30PM and then Christine Gilbin collared me into helping her until 6PM. Doug over for lyrics. | |
| 1998 | F - Picked up Bechyn slides and the black and white photos of 62 Beach. Spent afternoon with Karl. Denise Hastie's last day and I gave her a bear. Laure over - she went shopping with Ne. Brought home a 17" monitor to use at TP. | ![]() |
| 2001 | Janet Hall's (next to Sandspit School) to remove the MTX virus. She had been in night class in 1999 and her twin boys are in Gail's class this year. Paid electric bill ($21.35) and picked up TP's $29 winnings. Final night class, Jeanette and I gave Kath a box of Cadbury's "Thank You Very Much" Roses candy. | 2005 | Warriors game with Ann and Russell. Got a KFC stamp on our arm: "Kiwi For Chicken". Adeaze / Aaradhna sang Me Getting Stronger before. It was a romp, 46-14 over So Sydney Rabbitohs. Brought Steph's bed base to her Ponga Road abode. Nice one room with a million dollar view. Met Trevor and James (Irish wolfhound). Home to skunk Gail. | ![]() |
| 2007 | Herb Carneal died yesterday - a day before the season started. What a game to miss - Santana struck out first batter, Mauer got a hit on first pitch, Morneau homered on first pitch and Hunter did the same. The roar in Met stadium was unbelievable. Twins won 7 - 4 over Baltimore. Diane Gray called from the deep south to ask about computers. | |
| 2009 | Graham Webb brought his computer over to test on our internet connection. Middlemore to visit Gail. She had the stitches out today. All were easy except one at the hole site and it took four hours moving up the food chain until a doctor came to do it. Went to BK for supper before going to Houghton's for TP. | |
| 2010 | Sa - Over to Whites' where we waited until the others organized kayaks hire. Gail and I then walked around the town (came across John St) before going over bridge to the sandbar where we joined Tracy and Sally to wait until the kayakers returned (3 hour hire). Then I rested while the others played A-Ho. Not really up to a hike, so Gail and I went for a ride with Ian as he checked availability at Solscape. From there we went past the famous surfing bays and stopped at the track to the summit of Mt Karioi. Ian brought us back to our car and off we went getting home at 8PM. email from David saying Joyce will leave hospital tomorrow so he has made another recovery of sorts. |
